Healthy Holiday Treats
Healthy Holiday Treats Sunday Dec. 17, 2023 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. CT
Are you on the path to good health and wanting to indulge in tasty treats for the holidays without undoing your progress? Are you interested in sharing health supportive treats with your loved ones? Do you need some health supportive treats to take to holiday parties that everyone will enjoy including you? Don't feel down because you have to make a choice between your health and your enjoyment of the holiday season. Evidence suggests that foods can help conquer moodiness and more serious mood problems such as anxiety and depression. Studies show a dramatic improvement in depression and hostility scores, along with physical benefits, with a plant-based diet. This may happen because inflammatory foods such as dairy, meat, and eggs may trigger chemical changes in the brain. Furthermore, fruits and vegetables are anti- inflammatory. Another potential mechanism is the high-fiber content of a plant-based diet. Fiber fosters healthy gut bacteria, which release short-chain fatty acids that appear to have favorable effects in the brain. In this class, we will demonstrate recipes for holiday treats providing all of the flavors of the season using ingredients that support your mood, blood pressure, heart, healthy weight and more. Class includes evidence-based science, cooking demonstrations, easy-to-follow tasty recipes, Q&A and more.
The Food for Life program is a community-based nutrition education program of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). PCRM is a nonprofit organization advancing preventive medicine, primarily good nutrition, and supports higher standards in research.
